John Pritchett Memorial Scholarship

John Pritchett was one of the original members of the Amite River Hunting Retriever Club.  Throughout the twenty-plus years that John belonged to the Club, his presence and influence was one of the constants that kept ARHRC going and growing.  He is a big reason that today, ARHRC is considered by many to be one of the premier Hunting Retriever Clubs in America.  As a club member of both ARHRC and the Pontchartrain Retriever Club, John would do whatever the club needed to help the event be a success, as a Game Steward, a Hunt Test Judge, and even a Bird Boy.  His knowledge of retrievers and how to train them was always freely shared with rookies and veterans alike.  And his sense of humor kept us all smiling, even when times got tough.  Many of us owe our success in the Hunt Test game in some part to “Big John” Pritchett.

John passed away in October, 2007. The legacy he left behind was considerable.  Soon after his death, John’s many friends worked with the HRC Foundation to establish a scholarship in John’s name.  Starting in 2008, a $1500 scholarship has been awarded each year.  Winners must be an HRC member or an immediate family member.
